CenDiv Road Rally Championship
While the temperatures were not much above freezing, the Championship has been heating up with strong showings for both Flamethrower & Alligator Slide Rallies this past weekend! The double Divisional weekend featured some repeat gravel roads, some new minimum maintenance adventures, and a lot of classic paved tracks that haven’t been used in years!
Rallymaster Tyler Linner (that’s me!) returned with his third edition of the classic Flamethrower rally, but with a twist! Instead of circling Red Wing, competitors enjoyed a scenic and technically challenging drive south to end at Winona, MN where Alligator Slide Rally would begin the next morning. Competition was fierce with the top five teams all besting 40 points. Cook/Tu triumphantly edged out Ted/Liisa Rurup’s solid E class performance for 3rd overall while the Iowa/Blackhawk Valley Region team of Kurth/Capesius drove their lifted Outback to an impressive 2nd. This makes Kurth/Capesius the leading non-LOL rallyists so far! Longtime organizers Clarence and Kate Westberg competed in their first Rabbit Rally event and did so with precision, bringing their winning score of 29.6 points straight to the bank!
Alligator Slide rallymaster Ted Rurup invited some family members to his rally, and they proved to be strong contenders. Jonathan and Lydia brought their red Forester to 4th overall while Teah and Timothy’s burgundy Miata squeaked into 3rd with a margin of less than 3 points! Clarence and Kate Westberg brought in a satisfying 2nd place overall. Crowning the podium was Gavyn Gill with West Virginian navigator Tyler Masters, managing only 96.2 points with their 1985 Toyota Supra.
Upcoming Rallies
Minnesota Valley Winter Rally in St. Peter may yet see snow by March 15th. Clarence is joined by Brycen Setzepfandt to create this year’s rally along its namesake landscape. This rally is a bit shorter than last weekend, but also closer to the Twin Cities and features the infamous Salisbury Hill.
Those itching to escape Minnesota for once will want to head to Middleton, WI for Fred Rosevear’s Badger Burrow Rally on May 3rd.
Please take a look at the standings and let me know if anything is missing or incorrect. If your rally partner did not get this email and would like to be on the list, please have them email me from the address they would like to put on record.
