Explanation of Different Types of Track Events

Definitions:

Track Event/Track Day: Non-competitive Track Day.  Typically run groups are separated into 3 groups.  Novice, Intermediate and Advanced.  These events are not timed.  Passing is by point by.

Time Trial (TT): Competitive but not wheel to wheel.  Lap times are recorded.  Passing is controlled by point by’s.  If there are enough cars groups maybe separated by class and experience.

Track Sprint: This is like an Autocross on track.  Cars are timed over a rolling start to a designated finish line. These are deployed in different formats by SCCA National and Regions.

Track Night in America (TNIA): is run by National as a Track Event, with 3 twenty-minute sessions and 3 groups over 3.5 hours late afternoon into evening.

A TT License is required.
